Retaining trees on development sites
Retaining trees on development sites is important, but care needs to be taken to ensure that those selected for retention are suited to the setting. I recall from my tree officer days one site where the rear garden was dominated by a large oak tree. Sounds great, but no sun light, dry soil, further growth? Not my idea of a relaxing garden. I recently visited a site where a Monkey Puzzle tree had been retained in the garden of a family home. As the site manager and I ducked under the sharp lower leaves, we pondered the wisdom of retaining this specific tree.
